McMurray, PA here we come?

I want to thank all of you for praying and encouraging us during our time back in Ohio. We have seen God do some incredible acts of Grace and Mercy toward our family. He has been so gracious to show me my idolatry and His wonderful kindness. We have learned so much in our time of waiting on God to assign us to the next part of our journey. 

Tonight, with great joy, I share that He is leading us to McMurray, PA. It isn't a done deal, however, God has moved some really big obstacles in getting us to our current place. He qualified me when I didn't qualify for the position. He has allowed me to be open and honest without scaring the pastor search team off. He has moved our hearts from Ohio to a people wanting an under-shepherd in Pennsylvania. He has done great things and we believe He is moving us to lead Faith Community Church Lakeside. 

I find it very ironic that as we were preparing to church plant in Hawaii, so many years ago, I felt an incredible urge to name our church plant Faith Community. However, we decided on something a little different. I also find it ironic that our great God has me teaching about faith and community recently. 

I could not be more honored to be able to preach to a people that seem so ready to move forward with the Gospel and hunger to be taught God's Word. As much as they have loved on us, I am ready to love them and see God bring life to hurting people. I am both excited and thankful that God has brought us to this point. 

My family and I will be there Oct. 18-20. I am preaching to Faith Community on the 19th and spending some time eating with our church. Pray for us while we travel please. Also pray for our time together, that we would begin a great amount of relationships. Also pray for Faith Community as they vote to either bring me on as their lead pastor or to head in a different direction on Oct. 26th. Either way, God has a great plan for us!

The past seven days! Im about to bury my friend and what I have learned in those days!

     The past seven days have been brutal. It started for Michelle and I last Saturday as my brother Clint was not recovering well from a surgery I had 10 years earlier. As Michelle and I had the joy of committing to marriage two great friends and disciples, our minds were on Kettering Hospital and Clint's life and family. I didn't feel well last weekend while I fought a cold, a little fatigue and carried a little worry how Clint's surgery had turned from routine to life-threatening. I went to bed sick and woke up the same.      Sunday morning was much like Saturday night. My head was a little foggy and I knew that Clint wasn't doing well. As we prayed for him during the first service at church, I rested in the Lord, as I knew He is able to overcome any problems Clint was having in that room. Hurt people hurt people when they don't know they are hurt!

For the last 6 months, I have had little desire to write on this blog. Every time I began to write, it became a venting post and I realized what my writing might cause more harm than good. The last few months have been especially hard. For a while, I thought this was because of the presidential primaries coming or struggles I was experiencing within the church I have been serving. Day after day I would beg God for a clearer mind and less heavy heart. For the last few months, I have sunk deeper and deeper into ... depression. For the first time in a while, I realize that the depression I thought had left me has really been there all along. I thought I was managing it well or that it wasn't as bad as it felt, but it has finally overcome me in such a way that I needed help.
